Meta Develops It's Own AI Search Engine to Cut Reliance on Google and Bing Results
The search engine will provide conversational answers to users about current events on Meta AI
Meta Platforms is working on an artificial intelligence-based search engine, for its Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp platforms, as it looks to reduce dependence on Alphabet's Google and Microsoft's Bing, reported The Information, a technology-focused news outlet, which cited a person involved with the strategy.
Meta didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Meta’s chatbot relies on Google and Microsoft’s Bing search engine for answers on current events. A Meta AI search engine could eat into Google Search, said Justin Post, an analyst with BofA Global Research.
“Given the significant amount of time spent on Meta’s app…if users increasingly engage with Meta AI for information, there is a possibility that a portion of internet traffic could shift away from Google Search,” wrote Post in a research note.

Mark Zuckerberg Flexes Meta's Nvidia Chip Cluster Larger Than Competitors
A lot of computing power is going into training Meta's forthcoming Llama 4 artificial-intelligence models — more than anything offered by the competition, Zuckerberg said.
During Meta's third-quarter earnings call Wednesday, the Meta CEO said Llama 4 was "well into its development" and being trained on a cluster of graphics processing units bigger than that of its rivals.
"We're training the Llama 4 models on a cluster that is bigger than 100,000 H100s, or bigger than anything that I've seen reported for what others are doing," he said.
That 100,000 number may refer to Musk's AI startup, xAI, which launched its Colossus supercomputer in the summer. The Tesla CEO has called it the "most powerful AI training system in the world" and said xAI was using 100,000 of Nvidia's H100 GPUs to train its Grok chatbot.

OpenAI Launches ChatGPT with Search, Taking Google Head-On
As traditional web search falters, OpenAI offers an AI-based alternative.
One of the biggest bummers about the modern Internet has been the decline of Google Search. Once an essential part of using the web, it's now a shadow of its former self, full of SEO-fueled junk and AI-generated spam.
On Thursday, OpenAI announced a new feature of ChatGPT that could potentially replace Google Search for some people: an upgraded web search capability for its AI assistant that provides answers with source attribution during conversations. The feature, officially called "ChatGPT with Search," makes web search automatic based on user questions, with an option to manually trigger searches through a new web search icon.
OpenAI hopes the new capability will streamline web searching by eliminating the need for multiple searches and link exploration that traditional search engines sometimes require. Users can ask follow-up questions, with ChatGPT considering the context of the entire conversation to provide answers.

Nvidia Stock is Undervalued Because AI Companies Need to Spend Another $9 Trillion to Achieve AI Superintelligence, Softbank CEO Maysoshi Son Says
Son said in an interview on Monday that the ongoing spending trends in artificial intelligence will only accelerate in the years ahead, benefiting Nvidia and its GPU chip business, which has been the driving force behind most AI advancements.
"I think Nvidia is undervalued because the future is much bigger," Son said at the Future Investment Initiative conference. Son's bullish view on AI stems from his belief that artificial "superintelligence" will be achieved by 2035.
Whereas artificial general intelligence is broadly viewed as an AI system that is as smart as a human, Son defined artificial superintelligence as an AI system that is 10,000 times more powerful than the human brain. Son said that to achieve that level of AI, it will require upwards of 200 million GPU chips and $9 trillion in total capex spending by companies.
