AI Or Not Raises $5 Million To Stop AI Fraud, Deepfakes, And Misinformation
AI or Not is on a mission to protect individuals and organizations from the risks of generative AI misuse.
AI or Not, a widely covered AI fraud detection platform, has raised $5 million in a seed funding round to accelerate its use of “AI to detect AI” in images, audio video and deepfakes to prevent fraud and misinformation.
Foundation Capital led the round, with participation from GTMFund, Plug and Play, and strategic angel investors. The company noted 85% of corporate finance professionals now view AI scams as an “existential” threat and more than half of them have already become a target of deepfake technology.
In the next two years, generative AI scams could be responsible for over $40 billion of losses in U.S. alone. It is this growing threat that fueled AI or Not’s growth over the past year, serving over 250,000 users to date, with the new injection of funding used to create more sophisticated ways of detecting misinformation online and ensure their tools remain ahead of evolving threats.
“In countless ways, we rely on our ability to see and hear to verify authenticity. With the advent of generative AI models, now we can no longer be so sure,” said Zach Noorani, partner at Foundation Capital, in a statement. “AI or Not’s unique approach to AI detection solves this emerging problem. We’re excited to support their mission of protecting people, companies, governments, and assets broadly from the risks posed by generative AI.”

Managing Artificial Intelligence Agents As Employees Is The Challenge Of 2025, Says Goldman Sachs CIO, Marco Argenti
There may be AI 'layoffs' as programs are replaced by more highly capable versions.
This year, artificial intelligence will be dominated by the maturation of AI code as corporate "workers" that can take over corporate processes and be managed just like employees, according to a year-outlook blog post disseminated by investment bank Goldman Sachs featuring its chief information officer, Marco Argenti.
Human and machine resources
"The capabilities of AI models to plan and execute complex, long-running tasks on humans' behalf will begin to mature," writes Argenti. "This will create the conditions for companies to eventually 'employ' and train AI workers to be part of hybrid teams of humans and AIs working together."
Argenti predicts that corporate HR offices will have to manage "human and machine resources," and there may even be AI "layoffs" as programs are replaced by more highly capable versions. Argenti's broad prediction echoes comments last week in the CES keynote by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. Huang said onstage that "in the future, these AI agents are essentially digital workforce that work beside your employees, and do things on your behalf."
"The way you'll bring these AI agents into your company is to onboard them," said Huang. "In a lot of ways, the IT department of every company is going to be the HR department of AI agents in the future. Your IT department is going to become like AI agent HR."

Runway’s New AI Image Generator Frames Is Here, And It Looks Cinematic
The AI media tech provider Runway has announced the release of Frames, its newest text-to-image generation model, and it’s winning early praise from users for producing highly cinematic visuals — a fitting compliment given Runway is known primarily as an AI video model provider. Could Frames dethrone Midjourney as the go-to choice for AI filmmakers and artists?
Announced back in November 2024, Frames was initially made available to selected Runway Creators Program ambassadors and power users over the last few weeks.
As of today, it’s available to all through Runway’s Unlimited and Enterprise subscription plans, which cost $95 per month/$912 when paid annually or, in the case of the Enterprise plan, $1,500 annually. The company has also posted a showcase of new images generated by users of Frames on its website here, under the name “Worlds of Frames.”
Users can generate still images with it on Runway’s website at app.runwayml.com — if they have subscribed to the appropriate plan — and then with one click, use the images as the basis for movies made with Runway’s image-to-video models such as Gen-3 Alpha Turbo. According to Runway, Frames provides an advanced level of stylistic control and visual fidelity, making it a versatile tool for industries like editorial, art direction, pre-visualization, brand development, and production.

OpenAI Finalizes 'o3 mini' Reasoning AI Model Version, To Launch It Soon
ChatGPT maker OpenAI has finalized a version of its new reasoning AI model o3 mini and would be launching it in a couple of weeks, CEO Sam Altman said on Friday.
The Microsoft-backed company has considered user feedback and, consequently, plans to release the application programming interface (API) and ChatGPT simultaneously, Altman wrote in a post on social media platform X.
Last December, OpenAI said it was testing reasoning AI models, o3 and o3 mini, indicating growing competition with rivals such as Alphabet's Google to create smarter models capable of tackling complex problems. The AI startup had planned to launch o3 mini by the end of January, and the full o3 thereafter, as more robust large language models could outperform existing models and attract new investments and users.
In September 2024, the GenAI pioneer released o1 AI models designed to spend more time processing queries to solve harder problems. The o1 models are capable of reasoning through complex tasks and can solve more challenging problems than previous models in science, coding and math, the company had said in a blog post.
The new o3 and o3 mini models would be more powerful than the previously launched o1 models, the company had said previously.
